A Wigan charity worker has received an award for her outstanding contribution to mental health services in the town.
Rachel Munn is the head of Wigan’s Psychological Wellbeing Services for Making Space, a national adult health and social care charity which employs over 1200 people across the UK. She was given the Outstanding Contribution award in recognition of her commitment to quality and the constant improvements she makes to the services she manages.
Rachel was presented with a certificate and trophy by Andy Grant – a motivational speaker, Iraq and Afghanistan veteran and the world’s fastest single leg amputee in the world over 10KM – at an award ceremony at the Manchester Mercure Hotel.
“Winning the Outstanding Contribution award means to world to me,” said Rachel. “I am privileged to be able to do the work that I do, but it was so lovely to be recognised for it. I’ve worked for Making Space for a long time and I was honoured to be chosen out of all the amazing nominations.
“I have to say though I couldn’t do what I do without my amazing team, we work together and support each other and we all share the same values and beliefs.”
Rachel was nominated for the award by members of her team, who praised her for her “passion, excitement and constantly seeing potential for growth,” “dedication and loyalty in everything she does,” “always putting us first,” and “always going above and beyond to deliver successful services – all with ease, confidence and enthusiasm.”
Over 250 people were nominated for the Making Space awards, with three individuals or teams shortlisted for each award. The judges – Making Space trustee Elaine Johnstone and head of digital people services Tom Cruse – said Rachel inspired everyone around her.
“The value Rachel places on professional standards, compassion and continuous improvement is apparent in everything she does,” they said. “Her positivity is infectious and inspiring and she influences those around her to excel, while organising services strategically to improve outcomes and maintaining numerous successful contracts.
“She has created a fantastic work environment where everyone is able to thrive and achieve the best outcomes for themselves and the people they support.”
The inaugural Making Space Colleague Awards have been established to recognise and pay tribute to individuals and teams who inspire others, go above and beyond expectations and make a real difference to the lives of the people supported by Making Space.
