St Helen’s support worker shortlisted for second care award

A St Helen’s social care worker who was named Wellbeing Hero of the Year by the charity Making Space in October has been shortlisted for a second prestigious care award.

Andrew Noblett, a support worker and team leader for St Helen’s Supported Housing on Dorning Street, is on the shortlist for the Great British Care Award (GBCA) Care Innovator award.

The award is given to a person who has “exceptional entrepreneurial skills” and identifies and delivers innovations that benefit staff and service users. Andrew was recognised by judges for the innovative ways he enhances the lives of residents and colleagues at the supported housing scheme.

Andrew has been shortlisted for the North West region, and if he takes home the trophy from the ceremony at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester in November, he’ll go on to the national final in March 2023.

“It’s good that our organisation and team are being recognise for all our hard work,” he says. “I’m happy to be nominated for the Great British Carers Award, it’s a massive achievement for me and our team. I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without the support of my managers Caroline Yates and Kim Smith.”

Andrew was nominated for the award by Ross Wallace, store manager at the St Helen’s branch of Dunelm, one of the organisations Andrew arranged a partnership with. He said: “Andrew is a true innovator and constantly strives to improve the lives of his own tenants and team. He also takes every opportunity he can to advocate for the health and wellbeing of people who need support, wherever they are.

“He consistently goes above and beyond by seeking out partnerships and innovations to enhance the lives of residents and colleagues, identifying opportunities and working tirelessly to make them happen, often in his own time.

“Andrew has secured funding to regenerate an outdoor space into a nature haven and a beautiful place for residents to relax, worked with Dunelm on a Christmas campaign to deliver presents to the St Helen’s tenants, homelessness support organisations and domestic violence charities, and is always happy to advise partner organisations on the best approach to wellbeing and mental health.”

Phil Orton is the chief people officer at Making Space, a national adult health and social care charity with 1200 employees across the UK.

“The partners Andrew works with give us glowing feedback about the initiatives he arranges not just for residents, but for employees in their organisations,” he says. “We often hear of how he goes out of his way to provide advice and support, and that he’s a credit to Making Space.

“Awards such as this are a brilliant way to shine a light on people like Andrew who are committed to improving lives and work incredibly hard to make that happen. We all wish him the very best of luck.”

The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout the UK and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector.  They pay tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work, from frontline staff such as care workers and care managers to people who have made an impact in other ways such as training and innovation.
