Coventry charity worker wins Digital Champion award

A charity support worker from Coventry has beat national competition to be named Digital Champion of the Year by Making Space, a national adult health and social care charity which employs 1200 people across the UK.

Ayemidi Timiyan, known as Timi, was presented with a certificate and trophy by Andy Grant – a motivational speaker, Iraq and Afghanistan veteran and the world’s fastest single leg amputee in the world over 10KM – at an award ceremony at Manchester’s Mercure Hotel.

Timi was recognised for her work to upgrade digital systems at Bevan Court on Montalt Road, working round-the-clock shifts to ensure colleagues and residents weren’t disrupted while records were moved onto a new digital system.

“I was honoured and very happy to win the award and to be recognised by Making Space,” says Timi. “I was nominated alongside people from across the UK and I didn’t think I’d stand a chance. I owe this to my team leader, Tracey Hutchinson for always believing in me.”

Tracey said of the nomination: “Timi has worked a combination of early, late and night shifts to help me to make sure everything is running smoothly with no disruption to the care we deliver. She has also made suggestions for changes to be made to allow the system to work more efficiently to benefit other staff.”

Over 250 people were nominated for the Making Space awards, with three individuals or teams shortlisted for each award. The judges – Making Space trustee Elaine Johnstone and head of digital people services Tom Cruse – praised Timi for taking on the task of digitalisation to help her colleagues work more efficiently.

“As Bevan Court moves all its care plans onto our new digital systems, Timi has been invaluable in the transition, identifying potential issues, and suggesting solutions,” they said.  “She has been instrumental in developing new and efficient ways of working, all alongside her regular shift work. She really has gone above and beyond and thoroughly deserves to be recognised with this award.”

The inaugural Making Space Colleague Awards have been established to recognise and pay tribute to individuals and teams who inspire others, go above and beyond expectations and make a real difference to the lives of the people supported by Making Space.
