Go! magazine was produced by Travel South Yorkshire and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive from 2009-2010. The magazine was distributed to 150,000 homes in South Yorkshire, with the aim of promoting travel around the region using public transport.

Go! contained a mix of interviews with celebrities, features about local people and places of interest, informative articles related to transport, and news from Travel South Yorkshire and SYPTE.

I was contracted to write all content for the magazine (with the exception of the news items), and produced all 10 issues of the magazine.

Working closely with the editor Paul Wells, each issue was carefully planned to ensure a good mix of stories from across South Yorkshire, with factual, informative features to promote the objectives of SYPTE and Travel South Yorkshire on topics such as accessibility, congestion, sustainable travel, and transport technology.

Celebrity interviews included the author Joanne Harris (Chocolat, Honeycomb, The Testament of Loki), Olympic athlete Jessica Ennis, actor Dean Andrews (Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, Emmerdale), comedian Toby Foster, Reverend and the Makers singer Jon McClure, Strictly Come Dancing stars Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova, former World Superbike champion James Toseland and the artist Pete McKee.

Each magazine contained in-depth features and profiles of famous South Yorkshire institutions and businesses. Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre (famous for being the location of the World Snooker Championship), Warp Films, and the Music Factory (producers of the Jive Bunny hits of the 80s) were just some of the organisations featured.

Celebrating local people was a major focus of the magazine. Up-and-coming young talent, community heroes, food producers and a wide range of businesses were all prominently featured.

You can see seven of the 11 issues that were produced at www.issuu.com/travelsouthyorkshire
