A care worker from Blackpool is celebrating after being named as a finalist in the North West Great British Care Awards.
Julie Rose Neale, a live-in caretaker at Blackpool Supported Housing in Bispham, has been shortlisted in the Ancillary Worker category. She’ll find out if she’s won the trophy at an awards ceremony to be held at Manchester Kimpton Clocktower on 11 November.
This is the second time Julie has been recognised with an award this year. In July, she was given the Wellbeing Hero award by national health and social care charity Making Space, which employs over 1000 people around the UK.
“I was thrilled to discover I had been nominated and shortlisted for a North West Great British Care Award,” Julie said.
“I am passionate about my role within the Making Space team, and always strive to have the interests of those I support at heart. I am blessed to be part of the amazing team here in Blackpool.”
Julie was nominated for the awards by her former manager, a role which has since been filled by Jacqueline Berry. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Julie since May,” said Jacqueline.
“She oozes kindness and compassion and is an asset to the team, reporting and dealing with repairs and liaising with other services to address the needs of our tenants. She’s always available to make sure they feel supported and safe.”
Jenny MacLeod is regional head of operations for Blackpool at Making Space. She said: “We’re delighted that Julie has been shortlisted for the Ancillary Worker category. The contribution of our colleagues behind the scenes – the caretakers, cooks, gardeners and everyone else – is vital to the care sector.
“Julie is a wonderful example of someone who embraces their role and works hard to achieve the charity’s vision to put wellbeing at the heart of health and social care. We’re delighted to have such a dedicated person in the Making Space team. We’ll be cheering her on at the final and wish all the finalists across our sector the best of luck on the night.”
