“Juliet is dedicated, broad-minded, versatile and extremely determined. She is able to immediately catch the meaning and the objective of a specific piece of work and deliver the most diverse range of high-quality products in a timely way. She is extraordinarily reliable, pro-active and open to both providing and welcoming suggestions and new ideas. We worked together on a scientific project, but the technical contents never seemed to represent an obstacle nor a limit to her. She really plunged into the subject and contributed to significantly improve the overall communication strategy, achieving strong results in terms of visibility and dissemination of the project contents.”

In 2017, I took a 12-month position with the Barcelona School of Economics. This was a dual role, combined with leading communications for the newly established ADEMU project. When the maternity cover ended, I became full-time communications lead for ADEMU until the project ended.

Led by Ramon Marimon at the European University Institute, ADEMU was a network of eight European Institutions: Barcelona School of Economics, Catholic University of Portugal (CATÓLICA-LISBON), Charles University in Prague (CERGE-EI), Toulouse School of Economics, University College London, University of Bonn and the University of Cambridge.

ADEMU’s research, completed as part of the Horizon 2020 programme, was aimed at reassessing and strengthening the fiscal and monetary framework of the European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). The research and associated information are available to view on the project’s website.

The brand and project had been established before I became involved. After coming on board. I took over responsibility for developing and delivering strategy and meeting the communications work package objectives.

As well as managing all communications activity, including re-designing and managing the website, I worked closely with the project manager to stage events in Spain and Italy. One of project’s flagship events was held at the headquarters of Banco de España in Madrid, video of which can be seen below.

The projects findings were widely disseminated in regular newsletters and the media, and in an ebook produced for VoxEU.

Another key aspect of disseminating the final results of the project was creating short, succint videos by interviewing lead economists – these videos can be seen below.

Key aspects of my role with ADEMU included:

Developing and delivering all aspects of the communications strategy and activity, in collaboration with the scientific coordinator, project manager and institutions within the network.

Organising and managing international events including seminars, workshops and conferences.

Liaising with internal teams and external partners throughout the network to effectively deliver all aspects of the communications strategy.

Redesigning the website and managing all web content.

Creating branded print and online content for marketing and events.

Writing all content for multi-channel campaigns, including all web content and original material based on the network’s research.

Managing production of audio-visual content, including video interviews with key figures and guests.

All social media content.
